Thiruvananthapuram: It has been found that there were serious lapses on the part of the police in the incident where Dr. Vandana Das was murdered at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. Thiruvananthapuram Range DIG R Nishanthini has ordered a departmental inquiry against two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), Baby Mohan and Manilal, in connection with the incident. It has come to light that these officers failed to act appropriately when faced with the attacker.
During the attack by the accused, the two ASIs prioritized their own safety over taking action to subdue the violent individual, a breach of their duty to protect people’s lives. This lapse in their response is viewed as a stain on the reputation of the police force, as they chose to flee from the crime scene rather than fulfill their duty.
The tragic incident occurred on May 10 when Dr. Vandana Das was fatally stabbed by G. Sandeep, who was undergoing a medical examination at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, Kollam, under police custody. Sandeep, who had been brought to the hospital for medical examination, turned violent during the procedure, resulting in the fatal attack on Dr. Vandana Das.
