Idukki: Serious irregularities have come to light in all five beverage outlets in Idukki district after a recent inspection was carried out by the vigilance team . The vigilant scrutiny uncovered an unaccounted amount of Rs 21,907 from Upputhara, Kumily , and Munnar outlets, with an additional shortfall of Rs 14,359 discovered at Poopara and Rajakkad outlets. An unrecorded sum of Rs 20,000 was also seized from employees at the Kumaly outlet.
North Paravur and Ilanji outlets were particularly highlighted in the recent inspection, where an excess of Rs 17,000 was found at North Paravur and Rs 10,000 at Ilanji. The irregularities extended beyond financial discrepancies, as fraudulent activities were detected in the procurement of paper used to wrap alcohol.
The operation, known as ‘Operation Moonlight’, aimed at investigating allegations of overcharging and misleading practices towards customers at BEVCO outlets across the state. Complaints had been lodged asserting that patrons were being charged additional amounts and that there were instances of deceptive practices leading to the purchase of expensive alcohol.
