WAYANAD: The Health Department has suspended Dr. V Anilkumar, the Principal of Wayanad Government Medical College Hospital, due to multiple incidents of neglecting his duties.
APM Muhammed Haneesh, Principal Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare in Kerala, issued the suspension order on Thursday after conducting a preliminary inquiry into various allegations against the Principal.
The suspension order states that the decision to take departmental action was a result of his repeated negligence in carrying out his responsibilities with the necessary diligence. Some of the complaints received via the Chief Minister’s Office complaints portal regarding the functioning of the Medical College were also investigated.
The inquiry report highlighted several issues, including delays in assigning staff to address institutional problems, slow action in filling staff vacancies, regular absence from District Development Council meetings, and careless handling of official emails. Additionally, it was noted that there was mishandling of funds for disposing of biomedical waste from the hospital, and references were made to the Principal locking up important files related to the inspection by the National Medical Commission.
