Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala Temple prepares to open its doors at 5 p.m. today for the Chithira Aattathirunal celebrations. Chief Priest (Melsanthi) K Jayaraman Namboothiri will open the Namboothiri Nata and light the lamps. Malikappuram Melsanthi, V Hariharan Namboodiri, will initiate the lighting of lamps at the Malikappuram temple.

The Chithira Aatta Pujas are scheduled for tomorrow, a special observance commemorating the birthday of Sri Chithria Thurunal Balarama Varma, the former Maharajah of Travancore. Special pujas, observed only on this day for Chithira Attavishesham, will include the Abhishekam (Anointing) ceremony using ghee brought from the Kavadiyar Palace.

Nirmalyam and regular anoints were performed this morning. The East Mandapam hosted the Maha Ganapathi Homam at 7:30 a.m., followed by Usha Pooja, Udayasthamana Pooja, and Ucha Pooja at 1 p.m. The temple doors will reopen at 5 p.m., with Deeparadhana scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and Padi Pooja at 6:45 p.m. The spiritual rituals will be led by Thantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru. Following the completion of the poojas, the sanctum sanctorum will close at 10 p.m.

The temple will open its doors once again on the evening of the 16th for Mandala Utsav, during which the abhishekam of the new priests will be conducted under the guidance of the Tantri. Devotees who have made virtual bookings can come for Darshan.
