THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P Valsala, a popular Malayalam novelist, short story writer, and social activist, has passed away at the age of 84. It has been reported that P Valsala died of a heart attack at a private hospital in Kochi.
P Valsala was honoured with the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram and the Kerala Sahithya Academy Award.
Among her notable works are ‘Nellu,’ ‘Agnayam,’ ‘Nizhaluragunna Vazhikal,’ ‘Arakkillam,’ and ‘Venal.’ She is renowned for her distinctive writing style.
‘Nellu,’ authored by Valsala, vividly narrates the lives of tribal communities in Wayanad. Valsala skillfully portrayed the lives of tribal women and highlighted issues of environmental exploitation.
Valsala authored more than 20 novels, around 300 short stories, as well as children’s literature and travelogues. She began her career as a teacher and retired in 1993 as the principal of Government Teachers’ Training College, Kozhikode.
