Pathanamthitta: A health department employee has been arrested in connection with the embezzlement of over 16.40 lakh rupees from the bank account of the Nilackal primary health centre. The accused, identified as Ramesh, employed as an office attendant, was taken into custody by the police in connection with this.
The accused organised the embezzlement by faking the signature of the primary health centre’s superintendent. Authorities learned about the fraudulent activity when the funds were being audited for matters related to Sabarimala.
The amount was kept in a joint account of the Panchayat President and the Medical Superintendent. However, when the money was checked for some purposes, it was discovered that the funds had been withdrawn multiple times by an employee of the PHC, using the superintendent’s fake signature. Police officials confirmed the arrest of the accused.
