Kannur: Gopinath Ravindran has stated his acceptance of the verdict that cancelled the re-appointment of the Vice Chancellor. He confirmed that no review petition would be filed. He also added that he will return to Delhi to resume his permanent role as a professor.
Following the end of his first term on November 22, 2021, Gopinath Ravindran was reappointed the next day. The appointment was not granted as per his request. Gopinath clarified that, due to this situation, no review petition would be pursued. He highlighted Kannur University’s transparent selection process, emphasising that all interviews were recorded. He also asserted that no failure occurred in any appointment.
The Supreme Court emphasised that the state government’s intervention prevented the re-appointment of the VC. The court also stressed that there was no necessity for a selection committee in the case of re-appointment. The Supreme Court criticised the fact that there was pressure from the position of authority in all matters of appointment. Dr. Premachandran Keezhoth, a member of the Kannur University Senate, and Shino P Jose, a member of the Academic Council, have approached the Supreme Court, raising objections to Dr. Gopinath Ravindran’s re-appointment.
