Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala is grappling with an escalating shortage of fresh water, with a crucial pipeline project ,aimed at supplying water to Sannidhanam, facing uncertainties. The proposed project involves constructing a pipeline to transport water from Kunnar Dam to Sannidhanam.
Despite the board’s efforts to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and initiate the tender process, the project remains in limbo. Three rounds of auctions were conducted to find a contractor, but none stepped forward to take up the project. Consequently, the Devaswom board is considering handing over the responsibility to the Water Authority.
Kunnar Dam, situated eight kilometres away from Sannidhanam, serves as the primary water source for the pilgrimage site. Currently, water is supplied to Sannidhanam from the dam through cast iron pipes.
