Pathanamthitta: The pilgrimage site of Sabarimala has witnessed a surge in the number of devotees in recent days. Devotees from far and wide places have been flocking to Sabarimala to pay homage to Lord Ayyappa, and complaints have arisen against police officers for making them stand in line for hours.
Criticism has particularly been directed at the police officers stationed at the Pathinettampadi, the 18 sacred steps to the Sabarimala temple. Many pilgrims have expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of transportation by the authorities.
In response to the increasing number of devotees’, additional arrangements have been made for Shayana Pradakshinam (done by prostration in a lying posture that starts with a Sashtanga Namaskara) at Sannidhanam. However, this has also led to a decision to allow Shayana Pradakshinam only after the closure of the nada (the temple doors).
