Thiruvananthapuram: Shanavas S, the Director of General Education, has emphasised that his recent remarks regarding the A+ grading controversy represent his personal opinion and do not reflect the stance of the government or its official policies. His statements were made during a session involving question paper preparers.
Speaking on the distribution of generous marks in the domain of public education, Shanavas criticised the prevailing practice, highlighting instances where even students who don’t know how to read receive an A+. He expressed concern, characterising such moderation as unfair to the students.
While acknowledging the importance of aiding students in passing public examinations, Shanavas cautioned against excessively liberal marking practices, advising educators not to award more than 50 percent marks. These opinions were conveyed during a workshop focused on question paper preparation.
The Education Minister has voiced his opposition to this. Consequently, the Director of Public Education has offered an explanation in response to the controversy surrounding this issue.
