Alappuzha: The sculpture in front of the Kunchan Nambiar Memorial, under the Culture Department in Ambalapuzha was destroyed in the name of renovating the area. It was demolished as part of the building’s renovation at Ampalapuzha East Nada, and the remains of the stone mandapam, where the sculpture was placed, were abandoned in a nearby bush.
Constructed in 2015 as part of the beautification of the Kunchan Nambiar memorial, the sculpture was crafted by sculptors C Honey and Anish Thakazhi in a three-month period. Notably, the sculpture, with a hand pointing towards the king’s stable, portrayed both sorrow and satire.
The ongoing construction involves the demolition of the existing building at Ampalapuzha East Nada to make way for an auditorium and other structures. Following the sculpture’s destruction, sculptors expressed their outrage, mentioning that had they been informed earlier that the sculpture would be relocated without any damage.
