Thiruvananthapuram: 21 railway stations in Kerala have been granted the ‘Eat Right Station’ status by the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for their adherence to standard food storage and hygiene practices. Among the 114 railway stations recognized across the country, Kerala stands as the first state to receive certification for the highest number of stations.

The stations in Kerala namely – Parappanangadi, Chalakudy, Thalassery, Kannur, Palakkad Junction, Chengannur, Shornur Junction, Tirur, Vadakara, Changanassery, Alappuzha, Varkala, Karunagappally, Angamaly, Aluva, Thiruvalla, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kollam have received this recognition.

The primary goal is to ensure the availability of hygienic, nutritious, and safe food at these railway stations. This certification guarantees the implementation of safe procedures for handling and preparing food, encompassing catering establishments within the stations, including stalls. The initiative adopts a comprehensive approach involving collaboration, regulation, capacity-building, and empowerment to promote environmentally and health-friendly food practices.
