Thrissur: The Thrissur Pooram Exhibition faces uncertainty as the government and Cochin Devaswom Board increase rent. The Cochin Devaswom Board’s decision to demand Rs 2 crore for land allocation has prevented the hosting of the Pooram exhibition. This escalated cost has plunged Thrissur Pooram into a crisis. A joint meeting will be held today between Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms to address the issue of the rent surge.
The Cochin Devaswom Board’s decision to escalate the rent for the Thrissur Pooram Exhibition has resulted in the inability to proceed with the event as planned. Two crore rupees have been demanded for allocating space for the two-month-long Pooram exhibition. Last time, the rent for exhibition at Vadakkumnathan Temple grounds during the Pooram stood at 42 lakh rupees. This is the first instance in the history of Thrissur Pooram where the government and the Devaswom Board have impeded the conduct of the exhibition.
