Kerala Government officials caught in bribery cases reappointed to higher positions in various departments with benefits

Thiruvananthapuram: It is shocking to see the government officials in Kerala who are caught in bribery cases and suspended from their official duties as punishment are given higher positions with higher pay scale after the completion of their suspension period.

If you think that the life of the government officials in Kerala is ruined if they are suspended from their official duties for accepting bribes, then you are wrong. Government officials are only punishable by a one-year suspension for accepting bribes. After completion of departmental investigation, they will be reassigned. These people will get half salary during the suspension period and full salary and benefits once the case is over. 134 people who were involved in bribery case in previous years returned to work after the suspension was nullified.

The suspension review committee reappoints these officials with a condition that they are not appointed in the top posts of the departments. But it is observed that after revoking their suspension following the closure of the case, these people get appointed to higher paying positions. Though departmental investigations are conducted against these people, the files seeking permission to prosecute them are often shrouded in darkness. Vigilance had arrested 60 officials in 55 cases last year alone.
