Kozhikode: Kaushal Shah, a native of Gujarat and the main accused in a deepfake extortion case, was presented in the Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The accused, presently in Tihar Jail, was brought to Kozhikode with the assistance of the Delhi Police.
According to police records, Kaushal Shah used AI-based deepfake technology in a WhatsApp call to extort money from Radhakrishnan in Palazhi, Kozhikode, Kerala. The accused contacted Radhakrishnan through a WhatsApp video call, disguising himself as Radhakrishnan’s friend. He requested a transfer of Rs 40,000 to Kaushal Shah’s account.
Upon discovering the deception, Radhakrishanan filed a complaint, and the police intervened to recover the lost amount. Other individuals connected to the case had already been apprehended by the investigation team.
