Thiruvananthapuram: Corporations in Kerala are not properly utilizing crores of rupees allocated through grants from the Central Finance Commission. In the financial year 2022-2023, these corporations have utilized only Rs 120.53 crore out of the Rs 373.71 crore received as grants.

The allocated funds, intended for waste management, drinking water supply, sanitation, and more, remain unspent. Moreover, these funds have not been utilized even in disease-prone areas.

The 2022-23 audit report reveals failure in project implementation on the sanctioned grants.

It is highlighted that the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has not utilized Rs 38.22 crore allocated by the Center for sanitation purposes and Rs 8.6 crore received as a health grant.

The list of grants received by corporations is as follows:

Thiruvananthapuram: Rs 91.38 crore

Kochi: Rs 67.25 crore

Kozhikode: Rs 72.99 crore

Thrissur: Rs 58.72 crore

Kollam: Rs 38.59 crore

Kannur: Rs 44.78 crore
