Thiruvananthapuram: Two brothers who are the accused in the case of impersonation during an examination conducted by Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) surrendered at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday. The court remanded the accused Amaljith A. and Akhiljith A. of  Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram for 14 days in judicial custody.

The Poojappura police who are investigating the case, are reported to file a custodial application to interrogate the two in detail. Police are suspecting that Akhiljith impersonated Amaljith.

The impersonation attempt was done during a PSC examination held for the posts of University Last Grade Servant at Chinnamma Memorial Girls Higher Secondary School in Poojappura on February 7.

During the examination, a candidate ran away from the examination hall when the invigilators were conducting biometric verification of the candidates. A CCTV footage from the area showed the person to have picked up by another young man who was waiting on a motorcycle.

It was found on enquiry that the alleged impersonator appeared for the examination in place of Amaljith. Further investigation suggested the possibility of Amaljith’s brother Akhiljith to have appeared to write the examination in place of his brother.

Meanwhile, the brothers have surrendered to the court while the police have registered a case under various provisions including Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by personation) and 465 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code against the accused.
