Wayanad: The Minister for Forest and Wildlife, AK Saseendran, stated that he will delay his visit to Mananthavady. “A huge protest is underway in the city after a wild elephant took the life of a man. So I will visit Mananthavady only after the situation calms down,” AK Saseendran said. He emphasized that people are emotionally affected by the incident and mentioned plans to discuss it with the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary. Additionally, the minister announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the deceased and assured job opportunities for their dependents.

Earlier today, around 4 am, a wild elephant entered the residential area of Padamala, resulting in the tragic death of Ajeesh Kumar (46), who was trampled. According to statements from the forest department, the elephant is a tuskless male previously captured by the Karnataka forest department and released into the forest with a radio collar attached for monitoring purposes. As the wild elephant remains in the residential area, the district administration announced Section 144 in Kuruva, Kurukkanmoola, Payyampally, and Kadankolli divisions of the Mananthavady Municipality.
