Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning indicating a potential increase in temperatures across several districts in Kerala. Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Kozhikode have been placed on alert, with temperatures expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius from current levels.
In response to the forecasted temperature surge, IMD has initiated a yellow alert, signalling the first stage of a high temperature advisory. Residents are advised to exercise caution in light of the anticipated temperature surge in the upcoming days.
IMD projections suggest that maximum temperatures in Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur districts may soar up to 37 degrees Celsius, while Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Kozhikode districts may experience temperatures reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
Yesterday, a yellow alert was already declared in Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts as a precautionary measure. The warning suggests the importance of taking necessary precautions during peak sun hours, particularly between 11 am and 3 pm, to mitigate the risk of sunburn and dehydration.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has emphasised the importance of staying hydrated by consuming ample fresh water, particularly for children and individuals engaged in outdoor activities.
