Thrissur: Man committed suicide on February 14th in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, due to constant pressure from bank officials. Ashokan (51), a native of Kallamkunnu, took his own life. The family alleges that officials from the Co-operative Bank had been continuously threatening Ashokan after he defaulted on a loan.
Ashokan had borrowed Rs 3,10,000 from Kallamkunnu Service Cooperative Bank some time ago. Initially, he repaid the loan on time, but recent defaults led to bank officials threatening foreclosure on the house. Subsequently, a confiscation notice was sent to the house.
The family also stated that when they approached the bank officials to inquire about the foreclosure, they were mistreated. Ashokan was threatened with house confiscation and eviction. Ashokan took his own life following this. Even after his death, bank officials continued to threaten the family, according to Ashokan’s wife, Prameela.
