Mass resignation of CPI leaders in Kodungallur Municipal Council

Thrissur: There has been a mass resignation of CPI leaders from the Kodungallur Municipal Council. Twenty CPI workers, including senior leaders, have submitted their resignations. Additionally, it has been reported that two councilors have resigned from their positions as municipal councilors. Both councilors have written to the party leadership to tender their resignations.

Currently, the BJP holds 21 seats, the LDF has 22 seats, and the Congress has one seat in the municipal council. With the resignation of CPI councilors, the LDF’s administration in the municipal council is now at risk. If the LDF loses its majority, the administration of the Kodungallur Municipal Corporation may be handed over to the BJP.

The mass resignation of CPI leaders is in protest against the state leadership’s decision to dissolve the constituency committee. Despite attempts by district leadership to resolve the issue, the leaders proceeded with their resignations. The constituency committee was dissolved following a confrontation during a committee meeting, which escalated into a fistfight. The leaders protested against this.
