Ernakulam: Malayalam film producer KV Muralidas, renowned among Malayalees for the movie ‘Vellam’, was defrauded by an Australian Malayali businessman. The movie ‘Vellam’ (2021), directed by Prajesh Sen, is about the true story of Murali, who was a complete alcohol addict but later turned into a businessman. He is also known as Vellam Murali.

Yesterday, Muralidas disclosed that Australian businessman Shibu had extorted crores of rupees from him under the guise of film distribution and foreign investor. Muralidas also presented related documents during the press conference.

It is also reported that about 10 other persons also came forward with similar complaints against Shibu. Kerala Police and the Australian Federal Police initiated an investigation and registered a case against him.

Muralidas stated that he initially encountered Shibu as an overseas film distributor and a Malayali residing in London. They subsequently established a joint business venture in Australia named Waterman Australia Private Limited, with Shibu holding a 65 percent stake and Murali, 35 percent.

However, Muralidas realized Shibu’s fraudulent activities when he failed to receive Rs 1.16 crore for tiles sent to Perth, Australia, for trading. Muralidas filed a complaint at the Nadakkave police station, implicating Shibu’s son, Akash, in the case. Muralidas also said that he has documents about many scams committed by Shibu and his son.
