Idukki: Former Devikulam MLA S Rajendran stated that he was not interested in renewing his CPI(M) party membership as he has to work with party members he considered dishonest.

Rajendran stated that as a member of the district committee, he was handed the membership form by junior workers in an attempt to humiliate him. He expressed concerns that if he were to return to the party, he would not be protected. Rajendran also mentioned that there were local leaders who did not want him to remain in the party, and he declared that he was not interested in working with such individuals.

Rajendran was suspended from the party for allegedly working against A Raja, the CPI(M) candidate in the Devikulam constituency during the last assembly elections. MM Mani publicly criticised Rajendran, leading to an escalation into open warfare.
