Nassau: Hurricane Dorian has caused destruction in the region claiming around 20 lives in northern Bahamas, the country’s health minister Duane Sands said on Wednesday.
In Abacos, 17 people died while three deaths were reported in Grand Bahama, the minister told The Washington Post.
Dorian, Category 5 hurricane, wreaked havoc with Bahamas, devastating vastly in the island country, uprooting trees, destroying communication lines and flattening houses, rendering hundreds of people homeless.
” We are in the midst of one of the greatest national crisis in our country’s history,” the country’s Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said on Tuesday night.
The “extremely dangerous” storm is the strongest hurricane on modern record in the area, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) says.
