Islamabad: After heavy criticism by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to Pakistan, the country is amending its Army Act to allow Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav the right to file an appeal in a civilian court.
As per the existing act, it forbade individuals or groups being tried under Military courts from filing an appeal and seeking justice from the civilian court.
Earlier this year, the ICJ, by a vote of 15-1 in the case, upheld India’s claim that Pakistan is in egregious violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations on several counts.
Pakistan had arrested former Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav and accused him of espionage. He was given the death sentence by a military court in Pakistan and denied consular access to India.
