New Delhi: England’s star batter, Joe Root, continued to display his exceptional form during the first Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston, as he notched up his 30th Test century and named in top 15 lists in most centuries. Root’s scintillating knock powered England to a commanding score in the first innings, highlighting his remarkable batting prowess and reinforcing England’s aggressive and positive “Bazball” style of cricket, which aims for victory and embraces an attacking mindset.

Root’s journey to the top has been a remarkable one. At the start of 2021, he found himself at the bottom of the “Fab Four,” a quartet of modern-day batting greats that also includes Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson. While Kohli led the pack with 27 centuries, Smith followed closely with 26, Williamson secured the third position with 24, and Root trailed behind with 17.

However, fast forward to the midway point of 2023, and Root has left these esteemed batting superstars behind by a considerable margin. Since the start of 2021 until now, Root has amassed an impressive 3,299 runs at an average of 58.91. In 62 innings, he has registered an astounding 13 centuries and nine half-centuries, with his highest score being an impressive 228.
