Houston: Rudy Farias, a Texas man who went missing as a teenager eight years ago, was really held captive by his mother the entire time, according to Houston police. This information became public after Rudy Farias, who was discovered outside a church over a week earlier, made charges of assault. According to a local activist, Farias said that his mother, Janie Santana, had kept him hidden for over a decade and subjected him to falsehoods and abuse.
The activist, Quanell X, stated that Santana would ask Farias to assume the role of a father figure and even tell him that he had to be the husband. Quanell X further alleged that Santana threatened Farias, warning him that he would get into trouble with the police if he spoke out. The Houston Police Department’s missing persons unit reportedly conducted interviews with Farias and Santana, with Quanell X present, at a hotel on Wednesday.
Farias’ disappearance, which occurred in 2015, was reported by his mother after he went on a walk with his two dogs near his family home in northeast Houston. While the dogs were finally located, Farias disappeared without a trace.
Quanell X shared that Farias expressed his frustration with his mother’s lack of respect for his boundaries and his desire to live his own life. Quanell X quoted Farias as saying, “I was tired of living like a slave.”
The case took an unexpected turn when Farias was found alive outside a church on Thursday. It was revealed that he had only been gone for a day, but he and his mother had maintained the charade for eight years by using false names.
