Beijing: The former Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang, has passed away at the age of 68. He died of a sudden heart attack on Friday in Shanghai. He served as the Prime Minister of China for ten years.
Li Keqiang held a prominent position in the Chinese political landscape as the second-ranked member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 2012 to 2022. His tenure as Prime Minister spanned from 2013 to 2023, a period marked by his significant contributions as an economist, particularly during China’s economic crisis.
Li Keqiang’s journey into politics commenced in 1993, when he assumed the role of First Secretary of the Communist Youth League. He became the governor of Henan Province in 1998. Then he took on the role of Communist Party Secretary of Henan Province in 2002 and later of Liaoning Province in 2004. He was appointed as the first Premier of China in 2013.
