Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships with impressive performances on Monday. Djokovic overcame a tough challenge from Hubert Hurkacz, while Rybakina benefited from an injury to Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Defending champion and top seed Novak Djokovic faced a strong test from big-serving Pole Hubert Hurkacz. Their match had been suspended due to the tournament’s curfew on Sunday, with Djokovic leading by two sets. However, he dropped his first set of the tournament before eventually securing a hard-fought victory of 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-4. Djokovic, seeking his sixth Wimbledon title, will now face seventh-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina, the third seed in the women’s draw, had a more straightforward path to the quarterfinals. Her Brazilian opponent, Beatriz Haddad Maia, retired due to a back injury while trailing 4-1 in the first set. Rybakina’s progression ensures her spot in the last eight as she continues her pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title.

In another men’s match, third seed Danil Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in his career. His opponent, Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic, was forced to retire with a right foot injury while trailing 6-4, 6-2. Medvedev, known for his powerful game, demonstrated his prowess on the grass courts of Wimbledon and will look to make a deep run in the tournament.

The surprises continued at Wimbledon as fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was stunned by American Christopher Eubanks. Tsitsipas, who reached the French Open final just weeks ago, was unable to find his rhythm and fell to Eubanks in a hard-fought match.
