New Delhi: HS Prannoy, the Indian badminton sensation known for his exceptional skills and numerous victories on the international stage, turned 31 on Monday. With a long list of achievements to his name, Prannoy has consistently made India proud with his remarkable performances.

Prannoy’s journey to success began at the junior level, where he showcased his talent and determination. He clinched a bronze medal at the 2010 Gundalajara Junior World Championships and followed it up with a silver in the men’s singles competition. The young shuttler continued to shine and delivered outstanding performances at the 2016 South Asian Games in Shillong and Guwahati, winning gold and silver medals in the men’s team and men’s singles events, respectively.

Prannoy’s excellence extended to continental-level meets as well. He secured two bronze medals in the men’s team event at the Asian Team Championships in 2016 and 2020. Additionally, he achieved success in singles competition, claiming a bronze at the 2018 Asian Championships in Wuhan. Most recently, Prannoy won a bronze medal at the Asian Mixed Team Championship held in Dubai earlier this year, further solidifying his reputation as a top player.

The Indian badminton star has also tasted success at the Commonwealth Games, winning a gold medal in the mixed team competition alongside renowned players like Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponappa, and N. Sikki Reddy.

In May 2023, Prannoy achieved a significant milestone by winning his first-ever Badminton World Tour title. He emerged victorious in the final against China’s Weng Hongyang, showcasing his exceptional skills and determination. Prannoy has also claimed three titles in the BWF Grand Prix, including the Indonesia Masters (2014), the Swiss Open (2016), and the US Open (2017). In addition, he emerged victorious in the Tata Open India International as part of the BWF International Challenge in 2014.

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of Prannoy’s career was leading India to their maiden Thomas Cup title. The Thomas Cup is considered the top men’s team tournament in badminton, and Prannoy played a crucial role in guiding the Indian team to victory. In a historic moment last year, India blanked multiple-time champions Indonesia 3-0 to capture their first-ever title. Prannoy was accompanied by stars like Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, MR Arjun, and Dhruv Kapila, who together formed a formidable team.
