New Delhi: Former badminton world champion PV Sindhu has announced that former Malaysian shuttler Muhammad Hafiz Hashim will be her new coach. The decision comes after Sindhu split with her previous coach, Park Tae-Sang from the Republic of Korea, in February 2023.

Sindhu had been training intermittently with Hafiz Hashim at Hyderabad’s Suchitra Badminton Academy (SBA) since parting ways with Park Tae-Sang, but it was only on Tuesday that she officially announced Hafiz Hashim as her coach.

The timing of Hafiz Hashim’s arrival as a full-time coach coincides with Sindhu’s slip to world No. 17 in the latest badminton world rankings. This ranking represents Sindhu’s lowest position since January 2013, highlighting the need for a fresh approach and guidance to help her regain her form and climb the rankings once again.

“After a long, drawn-out process, I am ecstatic to declare that I have chosen the incredible Hafiz Hashim as my coach,” PV Sindhu announced on Twitter. “Hafiz possesses all the traits I was seeking in a coach, including height, speed, and an attacking instinct. As a former All England champion in 2003, he sure has the pedigree as well. Having Coach Misbun Sidek as his old coach just adds this aura to him.”

Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, a former badminton player from Malaysia, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Sindhu’s coaching team. He achieved significant success during his career, notably winning the prestigious All England Championship in 2003. His association with Misbun Sidek, a highly regarded badminton coach, further enhances his credibility and adds a layer of expertise to his coaching abilities.
