Mumbai: Anshuman Jhingran, an 18-year-old open-sea swimmer from Navi Mumbai, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the youngest person in the world to successfully cross the treacherous North Channel. On July 17, at just 18 years and 125 days old, Anshuman conquered this challenging swim, securing a place in the esteemed Guinness World Records. According to a press release , Anshuman Jhingran is the 114th person to accomplish this feat since 1947, Anshuman’s achievement is a testament to his extraordinary abilities and unyielding spirit.
The North Channel, situated between Scotland and Northern Ireland, is renowned as one of the toughest Ocean Seven Swims due to its chilling temperatures, the presence of dangerous lions’ main jellyfish, and competing tides and currents, which continue up until the final few metres. Crossing this channel demands immense courage, skill, and determination, making Anshuman’s triumph even more commendable.
Son of Sandeep and Kiran Jhingran, Anshuman is a class 12 commerce stream student at Karamveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi. Despite his young age, Anshuman has displayed a passion for open-water swimming and an unwavering dedication to his craft. He attributes his success to the relentless training and support he received at the Fr. Angel Sport Centre, under the guidance of Chhatrapati awardee coach Gokul Kamath.
