Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia: As badminton enthusiasts around the world eagerly anticipate the upcoming BWF World Championships 2023 draw, India’s contingent of 16  players, including renowned figures such as PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy, is gearing up for the much-awaited event. The draw is set to take place on August 10 at the headquarters of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Starting at 12:30 PM IST, the draw will be live-streamed in India, allowing fans to witness the unfolding of matchups and the distribution of players across various categories.

Notably, PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, holds the 16th seed position in the 2023 BWF World Championships women’s singles draw. She stands as the sole Indian shuttler in the draw after Saina Nehwal, the London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist, withdrew from the competition.

PV Sindhu has etched her name in history as India’s most successful player in the world badminton championships. As a former world champion, silver medalist, and bronze medalist, she is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.

Despite her impressive track record, Sindhu has faced challenges in maintaining consistent form this year, with early exits in seven of her 14 BWF World Tour tournaments this season.

In the men’s singles category, HS Prannoy is set to lead the Indian contingent as the ninth seed, closely followed by the 11th seed, Lakshya Sen. Both Prannoy and Sen have previously secured bronze medals in this prestigious tournament.

On the other hand, Kidambi Srikanth, the only Indian male badminton player to have reached the final of the world championships, will enter the draw without a seeding.

In men’s doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will take the stage as the second seeds, positioned just behind Indonesian champions Fajar Alfian Muhammad and Rian Ardianto. Notably, Chirag and Satwiksairaj are the reigning All England champions. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are the 16th seeds in the women’s doubles category.

The BWF World Championships 2023 are slated to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from August 21 to 27. With India’s lineup of skilled players spanning various categories, the country’s badminton enthusiasts are poised to witness intense clashes and fierce competition as the tournament unfolds.
