Former Zimbabwean cricket captain Heath Streak has vehemently dismissed rumours of his demise, expressing frustration over the rapid spread of false information through social media channels. The iconic figure in Zimbabwean cricket was falsely declared dead earlier today due to a series of misleading posts that gained traction on various online platforms.

The reports of Streak’s passing were propagated by notable former cricketers, including Henry Olonga and Sean Williams, who shared the news on their respective social media accounts. However, the situation took a swift turn when Olonga, who had initially reported the false news, later corrected his statement on his official account, revealing that Streak had contacted him personally to confirm his continued existence and to request the retraction of the earlier post.

Streak himself expressed his frustration at the unchecked spread of the baseless rumours, emphasising the need for responsible sharing of information on social media platforms. “It is a total rumour and a lie. I’m alive and well. I am very upset to learn that something as big as someone apparently passing can be spread unverified, especially in our day and age of social media. I believe the source should apologize. I am hurt by the news,” he stated.

Setting the record straight, Streak clarified his health status and provided an update on his ongoing battle against cancer. “People Should be a bit more careful before spreading such rumors.” I am better now and recovering from cancer. I am at home, and obviously there’s still a bit of strain because of the treatment. But otherwise, I am fine. Suddenly, I get to know that people have started talking about my death, as someone shared it on social media. But that was not all correct. I am recovering and feeling a lot better,” Streak informed Sportstar.

Having been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, Streak conveyed that he is on a positive trajectory towards recovery. He disclosed that he is currently receiving treatment at his residence, and although he acknowledged some challenges posed by the treatment process, he reassured well-wishers that he is making favourable progress and maintaining overall good health.
