Hangzhou : In a display of precision and skill, Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS secured the silver medal in the 10 metre air pistol mixed team shooting event at the Asian Games 2023 held in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.

Despite initially leading the gold medal playoff 7-3, the Indian pair couldn’t maintain their advantage against the Chinese duo. Zhang Bowen, the reigning world champion in the men’s individual event, and Ranxin Jiang, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics mixed team gold medalist, orchestrated a remarkable comeback. The match concluded with a final score of 16-14 in favour of the Chinese, securing them the gold medal.

This silver medal adds to India’s impressive tally, marking the country’s 19th medal in shooting at the Asian Games 2023. India has achieved its best-ever performance in shooting at this continental event, amassing six gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals.

In subsequent events, the Indian women’s squash team, comprising Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, and Anahat Singh, secured the bronze medal, albeit after a closely contested 1-2 defeat to Hong Kong in the semifinals.

Concluding the day’s achievements, Kiran Baliyan clinched the bronze in the women’s shot put, registering a distance of 17.36m in her third attempt.

India’s medal tally now reads:

Gold: 8
Silver: 13
Bronze: 13

Total : 34

Medal tally of each countries till day 7 of Asian Games 2023:

During the qualification round, Sarabjot Singh showcased his shooting prowess, scoring 291/300 in his 30 shots, while Divya TS managed an impressive 286/300. Their combined score of 577 propelled them to the top spot in the 19-team event.

In the final, despite the setback, the Indian pair demonstrated exceptional skill and composure, showcasing the calibre of Indian shooters on the international stage. The competition format dictated that the first team to reach 16 points in mixed team finals would claim the coveted medal.

Sarabjot Singh had earlier clinched the gold medal with the men’s 10m air pistol team, while Divya TS contributed to India’s silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol team at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
