Iran: Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned footballer, is receiving backlash for a gesture of goodwill during his visit to Iran. Ronaldo was in the country for Al-Nassr’s Asian Champions League match against Persepolis, where fans presented him with numerous gifts. Among the gift givers was Fatima Hamimi, a skilled artist who, despite having a disability, creates art using her feet. In an expression of thanks, Ronaldo embraced her and placed a kiss on her forehead.

Iran sentences Cristiano Ronaldo to 99 lashes for touching a single woman Fátima Hamami (a painter with 85% body paralysis) who gave him a painting. Islamic courts accuse him of Adultery. The sentence will be carried out if he returns to the country.pic.twitter.com/dG6sBq2xUo

However, this friendly act has stirred trouble in Iran, where touching a woman while in a relationship can be seen as adultery. Ronaldo, who is in a long-term relationship with Georgina Rodriguez, is reportedly facing a ’99 lashes’ punishment, according to Iranian reports. Yet, there’s a chance he might avoid it if he expresses sorry for his actions, showing respect for cultural norms.

Currently, Ronaldo doesn’t have any plans to return to Iran for Al-Nassr games, but his visit might happen if the team advances in the Asian Champions League. Despite the ongoing issue, Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2022, hasn’t made any public statements.
