Raipur: In a standout performance during the T20I series against Australia, emerging player Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his gratitude towards former Indian captain MS Dhoni for his mentorship and guidance. Gaikwad, who plays a crucial opening role for India, has garnered attention for his impressive contribution to the team, accumulating 213 runs in four T20I matches among a lineup of talented young players.
Gaikwad, who serves as the opening player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where Dhoni is the captain, acknowledged the crucial role played by the veteran cricketer in shaping his T20 career. Reflecting on his journey, Gaikwad shared that he learned the nuances of T20 cricket during his time at CSK, and the valuable advice from MS Dhoni significantly contributed to his stellar performance.
Expressing admiration for Dhoni’s strategic acumen and ability to read match situations, Gaikwad stated, “Mahi Bhai has the ability to understand situations and strategize accordingly. It was Mahi Bhai who taught me to understand how the competition was progressing and what the course of the competition was”. From there, he learned to bat according to the team’s situation.
Gaikwad, who joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2019, has showcased consistency in his performances, accumulating a total of 1797 runs from 52 matches for CSK. The young cricketer emphasized that he always carries Dhoni’s advice with him, striving to implement it on the field.
