New Delhi: There are indications that Jai Shah might step down from his position as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Reports suggest that Jai Shah is considering resigning to pursue a candidature for the role of International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman. According to national media reports, the Asian Cricket Council has nominated Jai Shah for the ICC Chairman election, where the voting is scheduled for November.
To contend for the ICC Chairman position, Jai Shah must step down from his current position as BCCI secretary. Furthermore, if he wins the ICC election, he will be required to relinquish his role as president of the Asian Cricket Council, a position he took on in 2021. Currently, the ICC Chairman is New Zealand’s Greg Barclay.
If elected, Jai Shah would become the third Indian to hold the position of ICC Chairman, following in the footsteps of N. Sreenivasan and Shashank Manohar.
