Thiruvananthapuram: The Rajkot Cricket Stadium, where the Bharat-England 3rd Test match will take place, will now have a new name. This decision was made by the Saurashtra Cricket Association. The stadium will be named after former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah on February 14. This decision is a tribute to Shah’s remarkable contributions to cricket, both nationally and internationally.
On this occasion, players from both the Bharat and England teams have been invited to attend the renaming ceremony at the Rajkot Cricket Stadium. The event will also see the participation of members from the BCCI Apex Council and the Saurashtra Cricket Association. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah is slated to officially unveil the new name during the ceremony. The stadium has previously hosted a total of 11 matches across various formats.
Niranjan Shah, a stalwart of Saurashtra cricket , had represented the region in 12 domestic matches during the 1960s and 1970s. He also served as president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association for nearly four decades. Presently, his son and former domestic cricketer Jaydev Shah holds the position of president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association.
