Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian women’s badminton team secured a landmark victory by clinching the gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024. In an exhilarating final match held in Shah Alam, Malaysia, on Sunday, Bharat triumphed over Thailand with a narrow margin of 3-2.
PV Sindhu, Gayatri Gopichand – Treesa Jolly( in the doubles tournament), and the talented teenager Anmol Kharb emerged victorious in their respective matches, securing Bharat’s victory in the final held in Shah Alam. Despite a tough battle that saw Bharat take a 2-0 lead before Thailand levelled the score to 2-2, Anmol’s stellar performance sealed the historic title for Bharat.
This triumph comes two years after Bharat’s victory in the prestigious Thomas Cup, highlighting the women’s team’s remarkable performance in the continental tournament. Along their journey to victory, they defeated formidable opponents, including China, Hong Kong, and Japan, culminating in a memorable win against Thailand in the final.
