Jasprit Bumrah shows signs of recovery; Increases bowling frequency in nets

New Delhi: Speculation over the fitness of India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has intensified as he has reportedly increased the frequency of his bowling in the nets. Bumrah recently posted a video on social media, showcasing himself bowling in the nets, hinting at his recovery progress.

The pacer’s increased activity in the nets suggests that he may regain full fitness before the upcoming Asia Cup and the highly anticipated ODI World Cup. Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022 due to injury and consequently missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, where he represented the Mumbai Indians.

In April, Bumrah underwent surgery on his lower back in New Zealand, aiming to address his recurring injury concerns. Fans eagerly await his return to the field, where his unique bowling action has made him a formidable force in the world of cricket. Bumrah’s attempts to make a comeback have been hindered by his injury, but his recent progress in the nets is an encouraging sign for both him and his fans.

Initially, the injury did not appear to be severe, as he was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad in September and even played the last two T20Is against Australia on September 23 and September 25 of the same year. However, a few days later, Bumrah was unable to play the first T20I against South Africa due to scans revealing a stress-related injury in his back. This diagnosis ruled him out of the T20 World Cup, in which India achieved a semi-final finish.

Bumrah began his rehabilitation in November and started bowling in mid-December. His progress seemed promising as he was added to the white-ball series against Sri Lanka in January, more than a week after the initial squad was announced. However, while taking up higher workloads during fitness drills in January, discomfort resurfaced, leading to scans that revealed a fresh niggle. This setback ruled him out of the Sri Lanka series and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

In other injury-related news, Indian star batter KL Rahul, who suffered a thigh injury while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in this year’s IPL, hinted at his return by sharing a picture of himself resting after a training session. Following a successful surgery in England on May 9, Rahul commenced his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His indication of nearing full health brings joy to his supporters.
