Spain: Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has ruled out making drastic changes to the winning combination ahead of the second Test against the West Indies. Despite their dominant performance in the first Test, Sharma acknowledged that the inclement weather in Trinidad has made it difficult to gauge the conditions at the Queens Park Oval.
India clinched a resounding victory in the first Test, defeating the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs. In a departure from past practises, Sharma made a refreshing decision by announcing the debut of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s new batting positions.
“In Dominica, we had a clear idea when we saw the pitch and knew the conditions. Here we don’t have clarity as there is talk of rain, but I don’t think there will be drastic changes. But whatever conditions are available, based on that, we will make that decision,” said Sharma, speaking 48 hours before leading India into a historic 100th Test against the West Indies.
The Indian team’s confidence is high after their commanding performance in the first Test. However, Sharma is aware of the unpredictable weather conditions in Trinidad, which may influence the decision-making process.
The Indian team management will carefully assess the pitch and weather conditions before finalising the playing XI for the second Test. While Sharma does not foresee any drastic changes, the team’s approach will be based on the available conditions to ensure the best possible performance.
With the historic milestone of India’s 100th Test against the West Indies approaching, the Indian captain and the team are determined to build on their success and secure another victory. The players’ form and the overall team spirit will be crucial as India aims to maintain their dominance in the Test series.
