New Delhi: The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin on March 22, as confirmed by league chairman Arun Dhumal while he was talking to the media. He said that despite the upcoming general elections, slated for April and May, the IPL will be held entirely within the country.

The specific schedule for the 17th edition of the IPL is yet to be unveiled because the elections are expected to be held in April and May. Dhumal stated that initially, only the schedule for the first 15 days will be announced, with the remaining games to be decided after the general election dates are disclosed, and it is expected to be released early next month.

Dhumal affirmed that they were considering the date of March 22 to start the tournament and mentioned that they were working closely with government agencies. Dhumal added that they would initially release the first schedule and emphasised that the entire tournament would be held in Bharat.

The IPL was held entirely overseas (South Africa) only in 2009, while the 2014 edition saw a partial relocation to the UAE due to the general elections. But in 2019, the entire IPL season was held in Bharat despite the elections.

Considering the proximity of the T20 World Cup after the IPL’s conclusion, it’s anticipated that the final match will be held on May 26. According to reports, the opening match of the IPL will feature last year’s finalists, with the Chennai Super Kings taking on the Gujarat Titans.
