Mobile phones and other gadgets are an integral part of our day-to-day lives now. We can find ourselves using our devices in almost all areas of our lives, be it during work, leisure activities, or even while sleeping. As many reports come in of various individuals in different areas experiencing phone explosions, how can one identify certain problem(s) with their device, and how can we be safe with them?

A simple explanation for the phone explosions cannot be given. Sometimes, a particular factor or a series of factors can be held responsible for the sudden burst of the device. We are so addicted to our small screens that we cannot afford to use them carelessly. The effects of carelessness we can endure are going to cost a person not only their money but also their lives.

Flaming up of devices can be a result of multiple aspects; one of the most common reasons is the phone enduring battery damage. Battery damage of any sort can lead to an unhealthy battery, ultimately making it a leading cause of phone explosions. Most of the batteries in smart phones are made of lithium-ion.

These batteries can cause spontaneous chemical reactions, which would lead to catastrophic results. The chemical composition inside a battery can trigger the reaction so strongly that it will happen all of a sudden, and one wouldn’t even know how to react.

Batteries erupting into flames are also caused by overheated batteries or processors while charging. Even malwares that we are unaware of might overwork our phone’s processor, causing it to overheat.

Another leading cause of batteries overheating is that our climate and environment are heating up, and the rise in temperatures causes the batteries to heat up. Sometimes we even use our phones in direct sunlight, which can easily heat up the phone.

There are other reasons that aren’t in our control that can also cause heating problems. In certain instances, as our phones are in use for years, the internal parts all get older and slower over time. This causes the parts to not be as efficient or smooth as they once were. The older they get, the parts take more and more energy to work, which can cause the batteries to heat up.

In some cases, the main issue with batteries heating up lies with the manufacturers. The low-quality or hazardous parts they may use can cause the phone to bloat up and/or explode.

Some precautions to observe while using phones are:

  • Avoid any sort of physical damage to the phone.
  • Avoid using phones in direct sunlight and excessively heated surroundings.
  • Place the phone for charging far away from where you sleep.
  • Maintain healthy battery hygiene; essentially, charge phones only after they’ve run down to 30% battery life and disconnect from charging once they’re at 80%–90%.
  • Only use authorised charging adapters and USB cables from the phone manufacturer instead of any third-party products.
  • Look out for malwares that can affect the phone.
  • Some problems can lie with the manufacturer itself; to avoid issues because of such instances, buy phones that have good battery performance.
