YouTube has recently unveiled a significant update to its YouTube Young Partner Program (YPP), stating that they will be reducing the eligibility criteria for monetization. This update is aimed at providing more creators, even those with a relatively low number of subscribers, with the opportunity to earn money through the platform’s monetization features.
According to Google, these new eligibility conditions will come into effect next month, initially being available to creators in Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States, with plans for a wider rollout in the future, expanding the benefits to creators worldwide.
Under the revised guidelines, creators will need to meet the following requirements to be eligible for video monetization on YouTube: they must have a minimum of 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads within 90 days, and either 3,000 public watch hours in the past year or three million valid public Shorts views within the last 90 days.
Previously, only creators with 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 public watch hours in the past year or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days could join the program and generate income from their content.
Once accepted into the program, creators will gain access to a range of valuable tools, including Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. They will also be able to utilise subscription tools like channel memberships and promote their merchandise through YouTube Shopping, opening up additional revenue streams.
