Amazon India has introduced Prime Lite membership, offering an affordable alternative to its existing Amazon Prime membership. Currently, the cost of Amazon Prime in India is ₹1,499 for a year, while Prime Lite will only cost ₹999 for the same duration.
Subscribers to Amazon Prime Lite will receive free two-day delivery along with standard delivery options. Members will also be eligible for “No-Rush” shipping to eligible addresses, with cash back of ₹25. Additionally, Prime Lite members can avail themselves of 5% cash back on purchases made on the Amazon India website using an Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card.
Prime Lite membership includes unlimited streaming of videos, movies, and TV shows from India and around the world. However, there are certain limitations on the number of streaming devices, with a cap of two devices in HD quality. Furthermore, Prime Video for Prime Lite users will feature ads.
In terms of benefits, Prime Lite and Amazon Prime offer similar features with minor differences. Both memberships provide one-day or two-day delivery and “No-Rush” shipping options to eligible addresses. Amazon ensures that no minimum order value is required for free standard delivery.
While regular Prime membership grants access to Amazon Music and Videos, Prime Lite members enjoy the same benefits with some restrictions on streaming quality. Prime Lite users can stream unlimited videos on two devices in HD quality, while regular Prime members have the option of 4K streaming on up to six devices simultaneously. Amazon clarifies that Prime Videos for Prime Lite will display ads, hence the lower cost. However, the specifics of ad placement have not been clarified. Regular Prime Videos also feature ads at the beginning of shows or movies, though users have the option to skip them. Additionally, Prime Lite does not include free access to Amazon Prime Music, Prime Gaming, or Prime Reading, unlike the regular Amazon Prime membership.
