L. Murugan, the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, will inaugurate a new train service from Madurai to Bodinayakkanur. Train number 20602, from Bodinayakkanur to Chennai Central, and train number 06792, from Bodinayakkanur to Madurai, will be flagged off at the Bodinayakkanur railway station in Theni district.

The train service will commence from Madurai at 8:20 am and arrive at Bodinayakkanur at 10:30 am. The return journey will depart from Bodinayakkanur at 5:50 pm and reach Madurai at 7:50 pm. The Madurai-Theni-Bodinayakkanur broad gauge line spans a distance of 90 kilometers.

Bodinayakkanur is located just 27 kilometers away from Bodimettu, which serves as the border area of Idukki. This proximity will benefit not only the residents of Idukki but also tourists from other states and Sabarimala pilgrims. The new railway station will facilitate the marketing and trading of agricultural crops, and it will also aid in the transportation of spices from Idukki.

The introduction of this passenger train at Bodinayakkanur will greatly facilitate the journey of Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and those visiting pilgrimage centers such as Madurai, Velankanni, Rameswaram, Palani, and Tirupati from the Idukki district. Additionally, this route will provide convenient access to Theni Medical College.
