Delhi: Military representatives from India and China are set to convene today for discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing border dispute in eastern Ladakh. The focus of the talks is with regard to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which demarcates the India-China border. This marks the 19th round of negotiations dedicated to addressing border-related concerns. Leading the Indian delegation is Lt. Gen. Rashim Bali, the Commander of the Fire and Fury Corps.

These talks are scheduled to take place prior to a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled to take place at the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa, commencing on August 22. It’s noteworthy that both nations have deployed over five hundred thousand troops along the border since the commencement of the conflict. Against this backdrop, foreign ministers and security advisors from both sides engaged in discussions last month in an attempt to ease tensions.

The 19th round of Corps Commander talks comes after a gap of approximately four months since the last military dialogue. During the 18th round held on April 23, the Indian delegation emphasised the need for resolving persistent issues at Depsang and Demchok. Reports suggest that the focal point of today’s conversation will be the Chushul-Moldo border area.

Notably, the Chinese President is scheduled to attend the G-20 summit in India this coming September. Both countries are actively seeking a resolution to the border challenge before the significant event.
