Thrissur: Actor Suresh Gopi has stepped forward to offer his financial support to the Pulikali Sangam, providing much-needed assistance to the tiger teams dedicated to preserving Kerala’s vibrant cultural tradition. In a generous gesture, he personally handed over a sum of 50,000 rupees to each Pulikali team, emphasising the importance of safeguarding this iconic aspect of the state’s heritage.

The central government has also recognized the cultural significance of Pulikali and extended financial support to the tiger teams. The Central Culture Department has allocated Rs. 1 lakh to each group, further reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
However, Pulikali groups have expressed their concerns regarding the perceived neglect of this cultural treasure by the state government. Despite being a symbol of Kerala’s identity and heritage, the Pulikali teams have encountered financial burdens that have led to a reduction in their numbers. What once comprised around 15 Pulikali groups has now dwindled to only five.
Additionally, artists participating in Pulikali performances have voiced their frustration over delays in receiving aid that were announced by the tourism department last year. The financial struggles faced by these artists have raised questions about the sustainability of this cherished tradition without adequate support.
