Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the Nipah virus outbreak, educational authorities have decided to shift to online classes for all educational institutions situated within the designated containment zones. The move comes as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff from potential exposure to the virus. V. Sivankutty, the Education Minister, has directed Shanavas, the Director of Public Education, to ensure that children in these areas continue their education through online platforms.
The decision has also affected the ongoing 10th class equivalency exams conducted by the Literacy Mission. Examinations for students residing within containment zones will be postponed until the situation is deemed safe. However, students at examination centres located outside the affected areas will not face any disruptions.
The affected containment zones, which include several Grama Panchayats in Kozhikode District, are as follows:
Ayanchery Grama Panchayat: Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 15
Maruthonkara Grama Panchayat: Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 12, 13, 14
Tiruvallur Grama Panchayat: Wards 1, 2, 20
Kuttaidi Grama Panchayat: Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Kayakodi Grama Panchayat: Wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Villiappallu Grama Panchayat: Wards 6, 7
Kavilumpara Grama Panchayat: Wards 2, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16
These areas have been declared as containment zones, and travel restrictions are in place, prohibiting movement in or out of these zones. Only retail outlets selling essential goods are permitted to operate within the containment zones.
